UK tax services for the Making Tax Digital era

Returns, quarterly MTD updates, company accounts and VAT from a single team, for one predictable monthly price.

  • We’re authorised to deal with HMRC for you
  • Your price is set in writing up front, with no add-ons later
  • A Leicester team with clients right across the country

A hairdresser booked solid from nine till six has no spare hour for tax software. Nor does a lettings landlord juggling repairs, or a director who’d rather be winning work than reading HMRC guidance. That’s the gap our tax services fill. You carry on trading, and we deal with the returns, the deadlines and the correspondence, so HMRC always has what it needs from you, correct and on time.

Below you’ll find every plan we offer, the fee for each, which kind of client it’s built for and how the first few weeks with us work. If “tax svc” or “tax service” is what you typed to get here, the summary straight underneath tells you what you need to know.

In short

MTDFix offers UK tax services to the self-employed, property investors, small companies and businesses registered for VAT. A Self Assessment plan starts at £7.50 monthly, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax at £15 and limited company support from £25 a month. VAT returns are priced individually, and accountancy practices can hand their MTD workload to us under their own name.

MTDFix Tax Services at a Glance: Plans and Prices

Whichever plan you pick, one person looks after your file, we set up any software you need, and we submit to HMRC in our role as your agent.

What does “tax svc” actually mean?

It’s nothing more mysterious than an abbreviation of “tax service”. For a UK business owner it normally refers to paid help from an accountant with HMRC returns and payments. Good taxation services cover three jobs: calculating the right amount of tax, sending the correct return before its deadline, and making sure nothing you’re entitled to claim gets missed. Our UK tax services handle all three, and because the fee is spread across the year, January doesn’t arrive with a shock invoice.

Which of Our UK Tax Services Fits You?

The help a market trader needs looks nothing like the help a three-flat landlord or a software consultancy needs. Find the description closest to you.

“I’m self-employed”

Where our Self Assessment tax return services begin is many people cut corners: a proper look at your spending. We test each cost against HMRC’s rules, from van mileage and work phone bills to part of your household running costs, and compare your real expenses with the £1,000 trading allowance in case that works out better for a small sideline. We then work out what you owe, submit online ahead of 31 January, and warn you in good time about the two payments on account due each 31 January and 31 July. If you haven’t registered yet, our guide for people going self-employed walks through it, and we’ve also covered whether a sole trader needs a business account.

“I let out property”

Landlords face rules that trip up even confident DIY filers. Finance costs such as mortgage interest aren’t subtracted from rent in the normal way; instead they earn a credit worth 20%, the basic rate. We sort repairs from improvements, use the £1,000 property allowance when it beats your actual costs, and keep an eye on where your total income sits against the MTD thresholds. Rents are added to any self-employed turnover for that test, which surprises plenty of people with a salary, a small business and a single buy-to-let.

“I run a limited company”

Company clients get their statutory accounts and Company Tax Return prepared and filed. For context, small profits of £50,000 or less are taxed at 19%, profits beyond £250,000 at 25%, and those in between get marginal relief. HMRC normally expects payment within nine months and one day of the period closing, while the CT600 itself has a twelve-month filing window. We’ll also look at how you pay yourself, balancing salary against dividends, so the overall tax bill stays as low as the rules allow. The basics of company life are in our explainer on private limited companies, and our corporation tax saving guide goes further.

“I’m VAT-registered”

Every VAT-registered business has to keep its records digitally and file through software that works with Making Tax Digital. We prepare and send those returns, check the scheme you’re on (standard, flat rate or cash accounting) still suits your margins, and if you’re not yet registered we track your turnover against the £90,000 threshold. Because VAT work depends on volume and scheme, we quote for it individually.

“I’m an accountant with too many MTD clients”

Four submissions a year for every self-employed client stretches any practice. We prepare the bookkeeping, quarterly updates and year-end figures in your name, then hand them back for your review and approval. Your clients only ever deal with you.

Searching for tax services near me?

You’ll find us at 6 Egginton Street in Leicester, and local clients are welcome to ask about meeting face to face. Most clients elsewhere in the UK work with us remotely by phone, email and video. HMRC submissions all happen online, so your postcode has no effect on the quality of help you receive.

Tax Services: Common Questions

Is “tax svc” the same as a tax service?

Yes. Tax svc, taxservices and tax service are all ways people search for the same thing: an accountant to handle returns, payments and dealings with HMRC. That’s what this page describes.

What do tax services cost in the UK?

Firms charge very different amounts. Ours are fixed monthly amounts, starting at £7.50 (Self Assessment), £15 (MTD for Income Tax) and £25 (limited companies); VAT is priced to your needs. You’ll see the full figure in writing before we start.

I already have an accountant. How does switching work?

Once you’ve decided to move, we write to your current firm for the records we need and set up our HMRC authorisation. We handle that contact, so there’s no difficult phone call for you to make.

Can I use MTDFix if I don’t live near Leicester?

Absolutely. Leicester is our base, but HMRC filing is entirely online, and we support sole traders, landlords and companies throughout the UK over the phone, by email or on video.

Can I claim your fees as a business expense?

Fees for preparing a business’s accounts and calculating its profits are normally allowable for a sole trader or company. Charges for purely personal tax work usually aren’t. We’re happy to explain which applies to you.

Will I have to buy MTD software myself?

Anyone within Making Tax Digital has to record income and expenses in MTD-compatible software. On our MTD plan we pick a suitable product with you, set it up and connect your bank, so you’re not left working it out alone.

My return is already late. What now?

Get it filed. HMRC charges a £100 penalty as soon as a Self Assessment return is late, adds further penalties as time passes, and charges interest on any unpaid tax. Every week you wait makes the total larger, so we prioritise overdue returns.

Which details should I have ready?

Your full name and address, National Insurance number and Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) if you’ve been given one, plus your most recent return and your bank statements or records for the year. Companies should also have their Companies House registration number to hand.
